WHY CHOOSE OUR STUDIO?
Students past and present are/have been members of the Akron Youth Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra,
Cleveland Youth Chamber Orchestra, The Ohio State University
Marching Band, successful Pop and Progressive Rock bands, more.
Alumni have gone on to major in music education, percussion performance, and music technology; at DePaul University, The University of Cincinnati Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, Ohio State University, The University of Akron, Northwestern, and more.
Musical study builds self-knowledge and skill in skill-building itself. Alumni have also taken that ability into other fields: Human and Veterinary Medicine, Law, Sports Management, and more.
Scott is also a school music teacher, in touch with what students need to succeed. Lessons here can be a complete, stand-alone program, or a great complement to the school band/orchestra.
Clear, specific, patient step-by-step instruction
Students learn to perform, read, write, and aurally recognize rhythmic vocabulary IN TEMPO.
Students progressively develop techniques, vocabulary and musicality on snare drum and mallet/keyboard percussion; plus drumset, Concert and Latin accessory percussion, and steel drums, according to the student's needs and goals.
Studio Classes and Percussion Ensembles let students learn and perform together, gaining essential musicianship skills. (We schedule these as student interest and scheduling allows.)
Comfortable lesson studio is well-equipped, with an acoustic drum set, practice pads, 4.3-octave marimba, bells, CD/video players, whiteboard, many accessory instruments, and a large library of books, recordings and sheet music.
These studies will help students develop both: a lifelong ability to enjoy, make, and appreciate music; and the knowledge that they can confidently approach any long- or short-term task.
60-minute Lesson and Studio Class (for advanced students, studying snare drum, marimba, drum set, etc.)
Percussion Ensemble . . . . . . . $50 per term/$17 per month
Nine or ten 60-minute rehearsal classes and performance on end-of-term recital. Great chance to put technical and musical skills to use in a real musical setting!
Availability and scheduling dependent on demand.
how/ when do we start?
When: Many percussion students start in the 5th or 6th grade, after their school band has begun. That's fine, but we recommend starting before then, espeically if the child has shown early interest in sound and rhythm. Age 7 or 8 is usually a good point to start, but many students can begin even earlier. Please call for an appointment, and we will assess your child's readiness to study at no charge! The best time is NOW!
How: Just call or email us using the info on the CONTACT page, and we will set up an initial meeting, and/or schedule your regular weekly lesson time.
